SWQR Update — development of a new online platform

Bulletin 1 - June 2020

The Street Works Qualifications Register (SWQR) is continuously seeking ways to improve the process for registering candidates and renewing Street Works cards.

Following feedback received from you, our stakeholders, we have reviewed the application process and are pleased to confirm we will develop a new online platform. A dedicated project team will custom design and build an online application system. The new system will provide a more efficient and user-friendly service for our stakeholders. The main highlights will include:

  • removal of paper application submissions
  • a faster and more intuitive online application system
  • easy upload of photographs
  • direct upload of results by awarding organisations
  • clear status updates on current applications
  • faster turnaround of completed, accurate applications

We are also exploring options which will enable centres and awarding organisations to search and obtain specific information relating to their candidates and applications from the SWQR database.

While the new system will include many enhancements, online applications will continue to follow our existing and well-established processes. This means applications will only be accepted where the candidate has been certificated and we have received the results from the awarding organisation.

Alongside the system development we thought this would also be a good time to do a bit of a rebrand with a new logo and a revamped website, more information will follow with further updated, we expect both will go live with the system.

How to find out more

The new system will be developed using an agile software development approach. This approach will involve sprints of development work which will be continually reviewed and tested to ensure successful delivery of the final product. Using an agile method also provides us with regular opportunities to engage with all stakeholders. By involving you during the development and by working in collaboration, we can ensure the final product will be fit for purpose.

To help keep you up to date on project developments, we have set up a specific section on our website where you will find information on:

  • feedback surveys
  • ways you can get more involved in the development
  • how to register and access the system when it goes live
  • changes to SWQR processes which may affect your current ways of working

We are always keen to hear your views and hope that you will continue to provide us with your feedback throughout this project.

For further information about the project or if you have any comments, please contact us at SWQR@sqa.org.uk and mark your email for the attention of Carole Brown.

We would like to thank you for your patience as we undertake this development and we look forward to hearing your views.
